I can remember Christmas morning as a kid, opening my new Darth Vader action figure. It was the 70’s, Star Wars was king of the hill, and Santa Claus knew it. Fast forward, um, a lot of years and Star Wars is still on top – and the entire world is cashing in on it.

Margaret Thatcher was named the first British Prime Minister on May 4th, 1979 and an ad was placed in the London Evening News that simply read, “May the 4th be with you, Maggie. Congratulations” . But sorry Maggie, Star Wars now owns May 4th – just ask the internet.

The rebranding of May the 4th be with you has not gone unnoticed by marketers. Marketing is ultimately about market trends, and nothing is trendier than Star Wars.
