Did you 4th?
This is the Marketing You’re Looking For
I can remember Christmas morning as a kid, opening my new Darth Vader action figure. It was the 70’s, Star Wars was king of the hill, and Santa Claus knew it. Fast forward, um, a lot of years and Star Wars is still on top – and the entire world is cashing in on it.
Although nerds world-wide come together in collective force on May 4th each year, the actual term “May the 4th be with you”, has its ’roots in politics. Margaret Thatcher was named the first British Prime Minister on May 4th, 1979 and an ad was placed in the London Evening News that simply read, “May the 4th be with you, Maggie. Congratulations” . But sorry Maggie, Star Wars now owns May 4th – just ask the internet.
The rebranding of May the 4th be with you has not gone unnoticed by marketers. Marketing is ultimately about market trends, and nothing is trendier than Star Wars. Digital marketing in Santa Barbara is a perfect way for local business to show their stripes, or buns in this case. The great thing about using Star Wars as a marketing tool, is that it’s universal. Everyone gets the reference. There are no generation gaps when it comes to Hollywood’s greatest struggle between good and evil. And with Leia getting signed on as Disney’s newest princess, it’s safe to assume there’s no end in site.
When it comes to making updates to your web design in Santa Barbara for the month of may, or considering your business’ new FaceBook cover photo, don’t forget to include C-3PO and R2-D2. They just may be the droids that your business is looking for.
