Save the Date! The French Festival is Coming!

c’est la vie

The Santa Barbara French Festival has become one of the most loved festivals for Santa Barbarians, delighting local residents with a fun filled weekend for family members of all ages. The festivities kick off
1Fireworks_on_Eiffel_Toweron Saturday July 12th and run through Sunday the 13th. Vendors of all types will be present, selling their food, wine, and souvenirs – but as always, admission to the festival is free. Bringing together an amalgam of the Central Coast’s favorite things–food, culture, and family–it’s an event not to be missed.

Heading into its 26th year, the festival celebrates Bastille Day. Bastille Day, the French national holiday, commemorates the storming of the Bastille, which took place on July 14th 1789 and marked the beginning of the French Revolution. Similar to July 4th in the U.S., Bastille Day – known as La Fête Nationale (The National Celebration) or Le quatorze juillet (the fourteenth of July) in France – recognizes the events that would eventually bring about the first Republic french.about.com.

One of the biggest draws for the event is the entertainment. With over 30 acts spread across three stages, it runs from 11:00am to 7:00pm both days. The lineup will include vocalists and bands as well as performance and instruction, incorporating the wide cultural influences that the French have had – including French Polynesia, African, Cajun and so much more. They have welcomed everything from can-can to belly dancing, Cajun music to African drummers.

Not to be outdone by the entertainment, the food is reason enough the save the date. With local vendors serving up traditional

As for the kids, there are no shortages of fun to be had. With face painting, costumes, and a visual feast for all kids, it’s sure to be an exciting weekend.
